John Williamson has a unique approach to real estate. To him, properties are an equation - a sum of their parts and a product of their components.
John’s diverse background, including (but not limited to) agricultural engineering, residential and commercial construction, remodeling, and maintenance and repair, has shaped his awareness of the smallest details as well as the big picture. When John looks at a piece of real estate, he sees its location, design, materials, and craftsmanship, maintenance requirements, topography, landscaping, and drainage, as well as how these elements come together to influence the way an individual or family will use the property as a home or investment. John’s giving spirit and his focus on service set him apart from the crowd, and his clients typically become lifelong friends.
With a history of world-class athletics and working with multi-million dollar financial transactions, Dakota is in a great position to help anyone with their need for a new home. It stems from a desire to excel in any endeavor one pursues, whether it is competing in athletics, running a business, or treating those around him with the respect they deserve.
Dakota moved to Franklin, Tennessee, 25 years ago, long before Middle Tennessee became what it is today. Those decades of growing up and face-to-face interactions with Middle Tennessee have given Dakota great insight into its real estate opportunities. Utilizing that experience, Dakota has guided seasoned buyers, investors, and first-time homeowners, as well as those establishing second homes and legacy properties. His clientele spans a wide range of professions from medical sales professionals, engineers, authors, attorneys, accountants, retirees, artisans, and even a professional ballerina named Rachel. He did such a good job that the ballerina named Rachel ended up marrying him afterwards. Each of Dakota’s clients, like you, has specific goals. He finds out what is most important and then devotes his energy to making that hope a reality. Beyond traditional residential sales including single-family homes, estates, and homesteading land, Dakota offers full-service property management for investors and what he calls “accidental landlords”: homeowners who’ve experienced significant appreciation and hold interest rates they have no intention of giving up. His approach is intentional and strategic, designed to protect assets, minimize owner effort, and maximize long-term value. Prior to real estate, Dakota pursued a 20-year swimming career that hit its peak in the 2012 USA Olympic trials where he placed 6 th in the finals. While a Tennessean, Dakota traveled to Los Angeles to swim collegiately at the University of Southern California and returned home after graduating. Shortly after graduating, retiring from swimming, and pursuing his real estate career, Dakota took a 6+ month stint traveling solo throughout Africa. There he experienced unforgettable moments such as week long safari trips in the bush, hiking 100+miles on Table Mountain, and sleeping on the ground feet from the Nile River.
If Sound City were an intersection, it would be where Arts Avenue meets Real EstateRow. That being said... Welcome to Sound City! We are SO glad you stopped by...make yourself at home. You won’t find any cold big box names/chains around here, so if you’re looking for a machine to sell your home, you’re in the wrong place. We believe in doing Real Estate a different way. A Real way. A Creative way. In fact, you might say creativity and innovation is the life blood of our brokerage.
Our story started in Manhattan of all places. Owner Juli Schumann was just getting started at life and, fresh out of college with a psychology degree (if no one has told you, real estate agents are just psychologists with a name tag ha ha), she worked with a group of entrepreneurs launching the early 90’s trend of DIY before DIY was a thing, opening paint-your-own pottery studios. Her studio grew and over the years, her little loft studio moved to Nashville, where she held summer pottery camps for kids, among other projects. Juli’s entrepreneurial bug didn’t just stop at the arts, though. She realized there was money to be made in the Nashville real estate rental market and decided to couple her love of design with her keen sense of financial discretion.
Between the late 90s to the Great Recession, Juli renovated and flipped around 90 or so homes. Getting her real estate license was a natural progression as she expanded her rental inventory and in 2016, she decided to open her own firm, a brokerage she dubbed Sound City. In all these years, Juli has stayed close to her arts roots and loves how she is able to incorporate her creative mindset to help find real estate solutions that color outside the lines. A house is just walls and nails, but a home.... Well, a home is so much more.
Sound City has now grown to house several of the area’s top real estate agents. Our agents are not salespeople, but are trusted real estate advisors carefully selected to offer honest, thorough advice and to bring (you guessed it) creativity to the table.
